Yesterday, you learned the secret to prevent pesticides (yuck) from coming into your home on the bottom of your shoes. High tech strategies not necessary--simply take off your shoes.
Now for another 'secret' to prevent pesticides from entering your body through your GI tract. Drumroll.......eat organic produce! Yeah, another simple one! And if you are concerned about the price of organic produce, then at least choose organic produce when buying the Dirty Dozen. That link will also show you the Clean Fifteen, which are 15 examples of produce that tested as having the least amount of pesticide contamination. So you can choose conventional when buying those particular items if you would like to save money.
This past winter there were a lot of articles written about how organic produce was no more nutritious for you than conventional produce. I had to scratch my head about that conclusion. The reason for choosing organic is to avoid the contaminants that are found on produce grown conventionally. Conventional means that pesticides, herbicides and fungicides can be applied to the plant and produce itself. Organic farming uses more natural approaches to insure crop yields and therefore you are getting a lower body burden of chemical contamination when you choose organic. An apple is an apple, nutritional content speaking, but I would just prefer mine without a dose of pesticide, please!
How about you? What are your thoughts about organic produce? Please leave a comment below and share your thoughts.
